Image metadata viewer FAQ

Does this tool upload my image?

No. Metadata parsing happens locally in your browser. If GPS exists, the embedded map sends only those coordinates to OpenStreetMap so it can display the location.

Which metadata formats can it read?

Depending on the image, it can read EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, ICC, JFIF, PNG text, WebP RIFF, Photoshop, MPF, image-header, thumbnail, and some manufacturer-specific tags.

Why does my image show little or no metadata?

Messaging apps, social networks, editors, and screenshot tools often remove metadata. A valid image can therefore contain only dimensions and file-format details.

Can metadata prove when or where a photo was taken?

No. Metadata is useful context, but it can be edited, removed, or copied. Treat it as a clue rather than proof of authenticity.
